General assistants: pick one, not three
A general assistant is the tool you talk to: drafting, summarising, translating, thinking through a decision. The three serious options divide by where your work already lives.
ChatGPT is the standalone choice. Plus at Rs 1,999 per month including GST adds advanced reasoning, deep research, Projects and custom GPTs over Go at Rs 399. Gemini is the Workspace choice. If your team already works in Gmail, Docs and Sheets, the AI included in paid Google Workspace plans means no separate assistant subscription and no new tool to teach. The cost question is then the Workspace seat itself, not an AI add on.
Claude is the long document choice, strong on lengthy contracts, reports and careful rewriting. Its weakness for an Indian small business is billing: Pro is priced in US dollars, with no rupee list price located, so you pay forex charges and GST handling on top, and need a card that works internationally.
Decision rule: pay for one assistant. A second paid assistant is a luxury for a specialist job, not part of a starter stack. Three assistants and no system of record is the most common buying error in this category.
Design: Canva, and when free is enough
Canva's free tier is genuinely usable for occasional creatives: a festival post, a price list graphic, a visiting card. Its AI allowance on free is limited, at about 20 standard or premium AI uses, and you get 1 brand kit and limited storage.
Pro changes the working limits: roughly ten times the free AI allowance, 100 GB storage, 5 brand kits, background removal and the wider Magic Studio tool set, at Rs 4,000 per year for one person, before tax. Pro Lite at Rs 1,590 per year sits between the two, with the core premium tools and a smaller allowance.
Buy Pro when one person produces creatives every week and brand consistency matters across posts. Stay free when design is a monthly task. One Pro seat used daily beats five free seats used rarely.
WhatsApp and customer messaging: the plan price is not the full price
Start with the free WhatsApp Business app: catalogue, quick replies, labels and a business profile. For a single owner answering messages personally, it is enough for longer than most vendors admit.
A BSP (a WhatsApp Business Solution Provider such as Interakt, AiSensy or Wati) earns its money when several staff answer one number, broadcasts become regular, or enquiries get lost in chat history. Entry plans sit around Rs 999 to Rs 2,500 per month, before GST, depending on provider and features.
The cost most comparisons hide: Meta's per message charges sit on top of the BSP plan price, and they depend on message category and volume. Records and accounting: AI inside the tool you already pay for
The least glamorous AI is often the most useful: assistance inside your system of record. Zoho Books and Zoho CRM carry Zia, Zoho's AI assistant, inside products priced in the wider tools stack: Zoho CRM Standard at Rs 800 per user per month billed annually, plus GST, with a free tier for up to 3 users.
The rule: if a tool you already pay for includes AI help for the job, use it before buying a separate AI subscription for the same job. A separate subscription makes sense only when the built in help demonstrably fails on your real work. Voice and video: useful, and deliberately not priced here
Tools in the Murf and CapCut class help with regional language voiceovers and short product or founder videos. Prices in this category moved during our research window and we could not confirm a current India price on the vendor page for every tool in this group, so this article does not publish one. The honest buying method: shortlist one tool, confirm its India price and language support for your language on its own pricing page, and test it on one real video before paying annually. A wrong price printed confidently would cost you more than no price at all.
Worked example: a four person team's AI stack, line by line
Take a Pune home decor seller, 4 people, turnover Rs 90 lakh, selling through Instagram and WhatsApp. Prices as of November 2026, with the verification status noted in the master table.

Step 7: The lean alternative. Drop the owner from Plus to Go, saving Rs 1,600 per month, and stay on the free WhatsApp Business app instead of a BSP, saving Rs 1,178.82 per month: Rs 3,970.15 minus Rs 1,600 minus Rs 1,178.82 equals Rs 1,191.33 per month. Most teams should start near the lean figure and upgrade only the line that is visibly overloaded.

Method for every tool: two weeks on the free tier, on one real job, with one person responsible for judging the output. Then pay monthly first. Annual billing is a reward for a tool that survived a month of real work, not a discount to gamble on.
Common mistakes
- Paying in dollars when a rupee plan exists. ChatGPT Go and Plus bill in rupees with GST included and accept UPI. A dollar price adds forex markup and card friction for no benefit.
- Buying annual plans before a trial on real work. A demo always looks good. Your messiest real task is the test.
- Ignoring per message charges on WhatsApp. The BSP plan is the smaller cost at volume. Model the Meta charges before committing.
- Comparing an inclusive price with an exclusive one. Rs 1,999 including GST and Rs 800 plus GST are not directly comparable numbers. Convert both to with GST figures first, as the worked example does.
